The Great Man (or Woman) Theory of History

There is a concept of historical process called the 'Great Man Theory'. It postulates that history is primarily moved along by the deeds of great men (and women). Today that concept is considered elitist, even condescending; rather, history should be seen as proceeding from below, from the ebb and flow of humanity's mass. I do not wish to argue history's momentum sources--except to state that when my life of acting work is re-lived in my mind, my thoughts turn not the faces of the many, many wonderful character actors--actors like myself--that I have worked with, but to the faces of the great actors, especially those whom I have been lucky to share the screen with.
